About the author
My name is Christopher Greyson, and I am a storyteller.
Since I was a little boy, I have dreamt of what mystery was around the next corner, or what quest lay over the hill. If I couldn’t find an adventure, one usually found me, and now I weave those tales into my stories. I am blessed to have written over twenty novels.
My love for tales of mystery and adventure began with my grandfather, a decorated World War I hero. I will never forget being introduced to his friend, a WWI pilot who flew across the skies at the same time as the feared, legendary Red Baron. My love of reading and storytelling eventually led me to write and it’s the best job I’ve ever had.
I love to hear from my readers. Please visit ChristopherGreyson.com, where you can become a preferred reader, download an exclusive Jack Stratton mystery, and receive advanced notifications of book releases and more! Please follow Detective Jack Stratton on Twitter @chris_greyson and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ChristopherGreysonAuthor. Thank you for reading my novels. I hope my stories have brightened your day.
Sincerely,
Christopher Greyson

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2016Another great read by Greyson. Spoiler alert.
This one starts with an old lady who a lanky junkie is trying to rob. The old lady's husbands much needed medication is in that purse and she's not letting go. There are onlookers but in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood its best to keep your head down and eyes closed. The most any of them will do is pull out a phone and record the robbery.
The junkie breaks the strap on the purse and the old woman lands on the ground. The robber then takes off only to run straight into 6'6" and all two hundred and nighty pounds of Chandler. The robber bounced off but Chandler never moved an inch. The old woman begged someone to get her purse back. Of course Jack Stratton who was with Chandler takes off after the purse snatcher.
Stratton catches up with the idiot only to have said idiot pull a knife on him. He gets cuts but manages to put the robber on the ground. The police show up and Jack ends up in trouble and the robber makes his escape. Once the cop hears the old lady and Chandlers story Jack is released. Of course the robber is long gone.
Stacy Shaw has had her new job at H. T. Wells for three months. She's an analyst for the company and has found a few odd things. Her boss Leland Chambers is a real sleaze and tells her to never mind. Someone else will take care of it. Stacy's husband is on a business trip and Stacy has talked with him. She's found out she's pregnant and is on top of the world right now. She's one of the last people in the office and on her way out she speaks with Jeremy the janitor. Jeremy is a little slow but Stacy likes him and always takes the time to speak with him.
Once outside she runs into Betty Robinson who's her supervisor. They discuss the oh so sleazy chambers and Betty and her husband Bruce who came to pick her up leave. Stacy heads out to her car only to find it won't start. She doesn't live to far away so decides to walk. Its a walk she will never complete.
So begins another damned fine read and a good backstory for Jack Stratton.
This one has Jack, Chandler, a Jack and Chandler who are enlisting once they graduate from high school, a jack Stratton who will put in six years and then head for the police academy, Betty, Makayla, Replacement, Aunt Haddie who ran the foster house Jack lived in until he was adopted by a good family, Detective Clark, Kelly a girl Jack goes out with, a Kelly who comes from a wealthy family, a wealthy family that frowns of those from Hamilton Heights, Ted Stratton his Father, Laura his mother, Detective Vargas, Michael Shaw, a Jack and Chandler who find the missing Stacy, a very dead Stacy, a Jack who puts his Army enlistment in jeopardy as he tries to solve the murder of Stacy Shaw, a Jack who can't get anyone to listen to him, a Ted Stratton who tries to reign Jack in and Jack Stratton taking the steps that will lead to he becoming the man he was meant to be, solve the crime, catch the murderer and stay alive.
Five Stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2017did a very nice job on pace, kept me guessing till the last few chaptors, Clean, as in not swimming in foul language or porn, (actually there wasn't ANY of either ), their wasn't even any blaspheme. Has a real gritty in touch with reality backbeat on subjects like child abuse, teen bullying etc. Good interaction between the main character and supporting caste. How he deals with the girl friend issue, and dealing with folks he likes that have problems and dealing with folks he doesn't like was masterfully done. This book would be worth the read just for what you can learn from it. The great story line, and delivery, are just icing on the cake. I have already bought book two and three, book one was that good. and in a world where you cant get any warning on the trash you may have to slog through, or as I do, throw in the trash, It is wonderful to find a good writer that you can trust not to make you want to puke or circle file their work before you can finish it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2016I take it that this book is a prequel to an existing series, none of which I have ever read.
This book is okay. The writing is adequate, if a bit labored. It reads like a YA story, honestly, with undertones of Christian literature. There's nothing wrong with either; they simply are not my preferred genres.
The protagonist, Jack, is a 17 year old young man who reaches his 18th birthday during the story. He is an impetuous know-it-all. His goals include going into the army and later on, becoming a police officer. Jack seems to think that since he wants to be a police officer, he practically is one. He behaves in the manner that I am guessing is how he thinks an officer would respond. The problem is that he has no training and often puts himself and others in harm's way.
This book wants so badly to appeal to young people and paint Jack as a tough kid from a bad background and neighborhood, but falls far short. He instead comes across as a person who has sporadically hung out in a bad neighborhood and knows some of the 'lingo' but isn't really rooted in that environment. The wounds from an abusive childhood are touched upon but not really dealt with, which is odd seeing as how many of his reactions to situations throughout the book seem to stem from his difficult past.
Jack is, in turns, petulant and childish as well as sanctimonious. His constant lecturing of his foster brother as to how he should eat, exercise, and conduct himself wears thin quickly, as does his superior, world wise attitude when dealing with both people from the 'bad neighborhood' and the snooty rich people with whom he comes into contact. This character simply does not react as expected from a person who had experienced the awful things described in the book. He would have been much more damaged.
He has what sounds like very kind adoptive parents, but they are a rather nebulous presence throughout the story and Jack seems to just come and go from their house at will. He spends more time with his former foster mother and seems to have a greater bond with her.
Suddenly though, at the end of the book, his adoptive father shows up in full parental capacity. This is part of the choppy, uneven writing that sometimes occurs in the book.
For someone, who I am guessing, is a somewhat seasoned writer, Christopher Greyson employs some very amateurish devices in this work. One of these being the inclusion of the 'unreasonable big meanie' in the form of Detective Vargas, who is a completely one dimensional character that is clearly supposed to raise ire in the reader and put them squarely on Jack's side. Another point is the inclusion of the 'love' angle and the prolonged passages devoted to it. The mystery aspect gets lost in these unnecessary additions.
Finally, the claim that this story will keep you guessing until the very end is incorrect. I suspected who the murderer was about a quarter of the way through the book and it turned out I was right.
This isn't a bad read, it's simply a little too sophomoric for my taste and does not inspire me at all to check out any of Mr. Greyson's other works.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2024I thought this book was well written with just the right amount of time to get to know all the characters. Jack`s relationship with his friends and family members was believable as a young man who had a hard life before finding a forever home. His stubbornness to do what he wanted to could have caused a lot of trouble but. . . Read it, you'll find out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Murder Investigation
Plot was nicely woven around Jack and the investigation progressed faster than the official police line adding a touch of romance. The broken life of the main characters was also laid out to cover the innumerable broken homes in America

5.0 out of 5 stars AND THEN SHE WAS GONE
Brilliant suspenceThriller. Stacy Shaw was working late. Everybody had gone. Save for her creepy boss and a janitor. Her boss argued with her when she pointed out discrepancies in a client file she was working on. Stacy left the building to go home. Her car wouldn't start. She decided to walk home thru the park. She never got home. Young Jack Stratton notices stuff that doesn't sit right. He tries to investigate and opens a can of worms. Who is the killer of Stacy Shaw? Brilliant book from Christopher Grayson. Highly Recommended. In fact..... months later I just read it again. And ENJOYED IT AGAIN.
