About the Author

The spotlight on Rumiko Takahashi's career began in 1978 when she won an honorable mention in Shogakukan's annual New Comic Artist Contest for Those Selfish Aliens. Later that same year, her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Urusei Yatsura, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. This phenomenally successful manga series was adapted into anime format and spawned a TV series and half a dozen theatrical-release movies, all incredibly popular in their own right. Takahashi followed up the success of her debut series with one blockbuster hit after another--Maison Ikkoku ran from 1980 to 1987, Ranma 1/2 from 1987 to 1996, and Inuyasha from 1996 to 2008. Other notable works include Mermaid Saga, Rumic Theater, and One-Pound Gospel.

What can I say about Inuyasha? This has to be my all time favorite anime/manga. It is really unfortunate that the anime ends at 167. Hopefully they will pick it back up, or at least continue it through OAV's.The manga available in English, is up to around where episode 60-70 would be, I believe and volume 24. In Japan, its up to 420 chapters and tankouban volume 42.I highly recommend this series, for adults only though. Just like the anime, it is very violent and (at least in the Japanese edition) has very strong language, and some partial nudity. The story follows a half youkai/half human boy, Inuyasha. He meets a girl from the 20th century Kagome, who is transported back in time 500 years to the Feudal era of Japan. Inuyasha is after a sacred artifact that can greatly increase youkai powers and has other magical properties, the shikon no tama, in order to become full youkai (youkai=poorly translated as demons). But a mishap happens with the jewel, and it gets broken into a million pieces; apparently to make the series go on for ever. :)Eventually the two become a group of 5 Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango and Shippo searching for the shards of the shikon no tama, and their arch enemy Naraku who is also searching for the shards. The story's base plotline is the group searching for the shards and Naraku. But along the way is an array of subplots involving the characters personal relationships to each other, Inuyasha and his brother Sesshomaru rivalry, Sesshomaru's hunt for Naraku and his relationships (I wont spoil anything in case you dont know already), the mystery behind the swords Tessaiga and Tenseiga (go Meidou Zangetsuha!) and many other characters that would be to numerous to list.It will be interesting to see how this series ends, will Kagome end up with Inuyasha? Will Kohaku survive? Will Sesshomaru finally bring the smack-down on Inuyasha? (You can do it Sesshomaru-sama!) I guess we shall see....This series is an international hit for a reason, unlike alot of manga/anime that is soley based on showy violence and unbelievable romances, this one has deep character development and is not as transparent as you would expect.I personally have not read the translated version, but if you can I would definitley get the original Japanese. Alot is lost in translation (no pun intended), and it is way (waaayyyy) better in its original language.

It's a bit hard to admit. I had lost interest in the show way back in the day. However, I had a chance to pick up volumes 2-20 at a Goodwill and realized that everything I disliked about the Anime wasn't present in the Manga. NOW I GET IT! While still tame compared to other titles in my collection, I have no problem proudly displaying these right up front!

Simple-but-elegant art, well thought-out characters, and a story that will keep you reaching for the next volume long into the night. InuYasha became a sensation legitimately. The story progression set a benchmark for other titles of its ilk to follow, and does it arguably better than all of them. Whereas Naruto, Bleach, and even Dragonball Z will leave you scratching your head in utter confusion at times, and often leaves things unexplained, InuYasha reveals all in time.

If you liked the premise of the show, but disliked the plodding plot, then you may want to give the Manga a try - just be prepared to be pleasantly surprised!

I'm almost 22 years old and I just started watching the Inuyasha show and fell in love with it. I'm waiting for my second season to arrive in the mail. I had heard that the manga was even better than the show so I decided to buy the first one and see if I liked it. It was excellent! I am not normally a comic kind of girl but I thought it was very good! Rumiko Takahashi did an excellent job. I will go and buy the second volume at a later date and read through it. The only bad part is that it only took me about 20 minutes to read. I wish there had been more. All in all VERY GOOD!

I first started getting interested in "Inuyasha" when I saw the anime series on Cartoon Networks "Adult Swim". I liked the show, so I looked it up online and found out that the show was based on the manga. I decided to buy the first book in the manga series last week. I recieved the book today, and I liked it so much that I read it straight through in less than two hours. It's a great manga, I love it. I'm defiantely hooked, and I plan on getting more Inuyasha manga. If your into action and fantasy, you'll love it.

Somente, leiam!
