New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became nomadic, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty Facebook comments (in own her mind) and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn’t lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe.

In this second installment of the Rose Gardner series, Rose has once again gotten herself involved in a murder. This time, however, instead of trying to clear her own name, she is trying to clear the name of the innocent party on trial for murder. How does she know he's innocent? A vision, of course! And lots of butting into business that she would probably be better off staying out of. This second part of the series also shows the development of Rose's relationship with sexy cop, Joe, as well as some friction between Rose and her older sister, Violet.

Denise Grover Swank is one talented and versatile author. Besides this series, I also read (and loved) the Here/There series. I loved this book just as much as the first, mostly because Rose is such a fun and likeable character. As much as I enjoy the romance between Rose and Joe, I also felt a little chemistry between Rose and Mason, the snarky Assistant DA with a hidden heart of gold and I am curious if that will be further developed in the next book. I also found it humorous that Violet's last name is Beauregard since that is also the name of a main character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I wondered if the author did that on purpose!

In sum, I really enjoyed this book. What a fun mix of chick lit, romance and cozy mystery. I am definitely a fan of Denise Grover Swank and have put the third installment of the series on my TBR. Enjoy!

After reading book 1 of this series, I just had to purchase book 2 and continue reading it immediately. While not quite as exciting as book 1, this book is well worth reading in order to follow the troubles that Rose's clairvoyance gets her into. This was another fun read!

Phew. I just love Rose. All the quirky. All the naiveté. All the good heartedness. Can I give more than 5 stars? It really needs more stars. This meticulously crafted, beautifully written, and expertly delivered story packs quite an emotional punch. The story kept me captivated from the first word until the last. Along the way, I felt all of Rose’s feelings as she experienced them - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, angry stomping, hyperventilating, and cheering. Rose is a 24 year old women living in a nosy closed minded small town. Rose experiences visions that she’s compelled to share with the person she has them of. She led a small life dictated by her recently deceased mother (book 1 in the series) and her experiences of being “weird. Now she is learning to live life for the first time. In this story, Rose is selected for jury duty and because of a vision, believes the defendant is innocent. While Rose struggles with what to do, she continues to try to embrace her new freedoms despite her fear all the while dealing with danger, mystery, and shocking revelations. Her boyfriend Joe and her sister Violet again play major secondary characters roles in this book and help Rose’s character grow. The book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, exciting action, danger, family drama, painful pasts, mystery, evil actors, plot twists, imperfect characters, and even a few chuckles. I am excited to read more of Rose’s adventures.

I love these books. They are a really cute, fun, quick read. I finished each one in about a day, and I can't wait for more! I really fell in love with the different characters in this book. Sometimes I am a little surprised by how quickly Rose has been able to transition into so new, "real world" situations, based on her socially restricted past, but she retains enough innocence and awkwardness that it doesn't break the immersion, just something you may find yourself thinking about later. It's sometimes painful to see the kind of mistakes she makes, but it's all part of the learning process, right?

**Spoilers!**

I can really relate to Rose's situation so it's fun to watch her grow and open up to the world and be free. The relationship developments between her and Joe kept me on the edge of my seat more then the courthouse drama did. Although Mason was never put to the forefront as a contender for Rose's affections, I felt enough tension there that I was quite concerned for Joe & Rose! The misunderstandings Rose had to suffer through at the hands of Hilary made me feel really sad! I hope that despite the distance, Joe & Rose can try to find a way to stay together and keep their relationship strong.

Neely Kate is terrific. I hope that her and Rose can continue to be friends, and Neely Kate can help Rose see her gift as a boon instead of a curse and maybe develop it into more then an inconvenience. I would love to see Rose be proud of all her abilities!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Crappydoodles I love Rose Gardner!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 27, 2014
I read and enjoyed the first book and this one was equally as entertaining. Rose is a brilliant character - impetuous, down to earth, naturally funny, tenacious, and quirky, particularly considering her gift of 'the sight'. There is plenty going on in this novel. I was chuckling from the start with Rose's disastrous arrival on the first day of jury duty. I liked the development of the relationship between Rose and her sister Violet. And I liked the introduction of Mason Deveraux - you will see why. Rose is on the side of the underdog, in this case a young man who has been charged with murder. Despite everything that is going on, Rose still has time for a bit of romancing with Joe. But what will the future hold? I like the way the ending leaves room for interesting possibilities in Rose's life. And I like Rose's expression 'crappydoodles'. As a result of her strict upbringing she probably thinks this is a pretty risqué thing to say, and it suits her character. I look forward to reading the rest of the Rose Gardner mysteries!
