Purchase options and add-ons
Owen is the organizer of the Montgomery clan, running the family’s construction business with an iron fist—and an even less flexible spreadsheet. And though his brothers give him grief for his compulsive list making, the Inn BoonsBoro is about to open right on schedule. The only thing Owen didn’t plan for was Avery MacTavish.…
Avery’s popular pizza place is right across the street from the inn, giving her a firsthand look at its amazing renovation—and a newfound appreciation for Owen. Since he was her first boyfriend when they were kids, Owen has never been far from Avery’s thoughts. But the attraction she’s feeling for him now is far from innocent.
As Avery and Owen cautiously take their relationship to another level, the opening of the inn gives the whole town of Boonsboro a reason to celebrate. But Owen’s hard work has only begun. Getting Avery to let down her guard is going to take longer than he expected—and so will getting her to realize that her first boyfriend is going to be her last.…

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2012Wow! I have read all of Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb's books and I have never seen so many low rated reviews! I strongly disagree! One of the things I love MOST about Ms. Roberts' books these last few years especially IS the details she puts in that really bring the scenery/characters to life.
Avery McTavish runs Vesta Pizzeria and is the best friend of Clare and Hope. Her mother left their family when she was 13 and never came back or got in touch with Avery or her father. Avery's father and the Montgomery brother's father were best friends so she grew up knowing all 3 brothers very well. In fact, when she was 5-6 years old she had a big crush on Owen who was about 8 at the time so he was her "first boyfriend."
Owen Montgomery - the middle brother - is the organizer of their family construction company and has known Avery all her life and feels very comfortable with her. During the re-construction of the Inn, Owen has spent much time making phone calls, taking a break to do paperwork and grabbing a bite at Avery's Pizzeria, Vesta.
As Owen takes a walk through the Inn one night in early December, he has some contact with the resident ghost "Lizzy" and thanks her for her help when Clare, his brother Beckett's fiancee, was in trouble. The next morning, Owen bangs on the Vesta door looking for somewhere to do paperwork and make calls, Avery lets him in. She makes him coffee and he gets to work. Before Owen realizes it, he has spent a couple of hours at Vesta and lost track of time. He admires Avery and how hard she has worked to make Vesta a success and how delicious her food is.
Avery for her part, has always had a special place in her heart for Owen and truly admires his organizational skills and his "plans" he has for event project.
I just loved how Avery and Owen's relationship developed slowly and cautiously. I believe that is just how it would go with someone you have known so long that you suddenly start having other feelings about. There would be some nerves as to what might happen if the new relationship dynamic does not work out when Avery is not only friends with Owen and his brothers but his mother and aunt as well and the reverse for Owen who is good friends with Avery's dad.
As Avery and then Owen work out their own emotional baggage and grow both closer to each other and to a possible future, several events happen to test each of them and their bond.
I really love this story! Highly recommended. My husband bought me this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2012Nora Roberts' is one of my favorite go to authors. Traditionally, her novels offer me comfort and that sense of the familiar that I have grown to know and appreciate. They have romance, intrigue and suspense while giving us a story that we can, most times, relate to. "The Last Boyfriend" is the second story in the Boonsboro Trilogy. I have to admit, any opportunity to visit this small town in Maryland....catch up on the rehab of the Inn; watching the growing Beckett family (the widower Clare and the sweet, patient Beckett, the oldest Montgomery); determine what the resident ghost (Lizzie) is trying to tell them, as well as see the growing attraction between Hope and Ryder....is a pleasure. This story centers around the growing relationship between Owen Montgomery and Avery McTavish. Owen is the sensible and extremely organized Montgomery brother. Avery, is the young strong willed, independent family friend who runs the local pizzeria. With a lifetime of memories and forgotten promises, the two find themselves fighting their growing attraction. As Avery sets her sight on making her first boyfriend her last, she must also deal with the residual effects of her mother leaving and learning to trust her heart. Owen will have to use all of the skills at his disposal to show Avery why they were meant for each other, as well as show her why the toy ring that he gave Avery years ago should be replaced with one that will mean forever.
What I will say about this installment is that I was reminded of some of the issues I had with the Sign of Seven Trilogy series. The first book in the series is fabulous, but the second is so full of explanations that it wasn't as good as it could have been. There were still a few loose ends that I would have liked resolved before they get into the story behind Ryder and Hope (the next book). I would have liked or was just hoping for some more resolution in this book, although they may address those questions that I have in the final book...like WHEN is Avery's mother going to reappear? When will the easy partnership between Willy B and Justine grow into more? What is the ghost trying to tell us? Either way, I am patiently awaiting the release of the last book in the trilogy. Hopefully I will have some of my questions answered and a sense of closure at the conclusion of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love thanks to Lizzy
This was a very lets see whats going to happen, but the ghost helped her fall in love with her first boyfriend again. She was opening a new restaurant and he was one of the brothers building it, and they never hit it off in the beginning, but as time went on, just became closer and closer, and Lizzy the ghost helped by getting them to find her lost boyfriend also. Who also had the same first name as her boyfriend's last name, that took some figuring. Some parts were so funny, I would laugh out loud. I enjoyed how all the books were connected, they all were in each book, building, shopping, worrying. One big family. See if they get married also.......surprise.
Its nice to have one big positive loving family, no negative in a world so full of crap today. There still are lives in which this actually still happens and I know of a few so its believable for me, and a treat to read. There is good in this world.
