Purchase options and add-ons
Amelia Sachs is hot on the trail of a killer. She's chasing him through a department store in Brooklyn when an escalator malfunctions. The stairs give way, with one man horribly mangled by the gears. Sachs is forced to let her quarry escape as she jumps in to try to help save the victim. She and famed forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme soon learn, however, that the incident may not have been an accident at all, but the first in a series of intentional attacks. They find themselves up against one of their most formidable opponents ever: a brilliant killer who turns common products into murder weapons. As the body count threatens to grow, Sachs and Rhyme must race against the clock to unmask his identity--and discover his mission--before more people die.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2023I truly enjoy these books. The mystery is always intriguing and I enjoy the Police work and relationships. These books does describe the relationships between law enforcement agencies and others they become involved with. It is one very close relationship and one must be able to trust those you work with. I love how the cases are worked and solved. The characters are a nice variation of personalities and I always look forward to the next book. There aren’t many criminalist in the world of law enforcement who can spend the time dedicated to one case unless it’s a huge special one such as a serial killer, etc. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2024Some very interesting characters. It was a little confusing in a couple of spots, but altogether pretty good. I especially liked the Torino, as my husband used to have one.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2024There are at least 5 different stories going on at once in this book. Lots of twists and turns in each too. It is also very exciting at the same time. I liked the character development too. I look forward to the next book by this gifted author.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2024Very lively. Interesting characters and dynamics. Sadness in many varied sizes, shapes and colors. Heck of a plot and sub-plot with tightly woven conclusions. All around an interesting read to be sure.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2024The intertwining cases create a decent read, but on the scales of other Lincoln Rhyme novels. While there are twists and turns worth the read but simply not as engaging.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2016If you are a first time reader of Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series of books you will enjoy this novel. Deaver's ability to lead the reader one way, while taking them in a totally different direction, is a skill unmatched by anyone else. The downside is that long time fans of his writing have learned to look at the magic trick itself, and not where the magician leads their eyes. His sleight of hand technique becomes predictable and expected. Still though, Deaver's intelligent and mechanical style of writing makes this a worthwhile read for anyone interested in crime and suspense novels.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024I Like Deaver. Like all authors I like, some of their books are more enjoyable than others. I hadn’t read him in awhile, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters, new and old, were great and the basic crime resolution was fun and clever, both the crimes and the revelation as to what was truly going on.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2024Jeffery Deaver has yet again written a masterful Lincoln Rhyme novel. The Steel Kiss keeps you guessing until the very end. My very favorite author and my very favorite character in a novel, well done by both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buona dose di elementi inattesi e giusto livello di tensione
L'ho apprezzato molto. Consigliato!

4.0 out of 5 stars A typical Deaver story
Nicely written. The well known Deaver twists, making it fun to read. Recommandable, but not as nailbiting as some of his ratlos thrillers. Still a lot of suspense.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was that a Deaver?
I'm a big fan of J. Deaver, but I am very disappointed in this book. Has he lost his mojo? There are too many different threads, a lot of Deaver talking instead of the main characters and it was really boring. I felt lectured the whole time...do's and don'ts regarding how use the American language are thrown at you and he seems his own obsession with the language is mirrored by this book. After about 50% of the book I stopped... I was so underwhelmed. Hope the next Deaver book I pick up will be better.
Excuse my mistakes... I am not a native speaker.
