Iggy Peck, Architect: A Picture Book (The Questioneers) Hardcover – October 1, 2007
Purchase options and add-ons
Watch Iggy Peck in the Netflix television series Ada Twist, Scientist!
“Read it at bedtime (it’s a quick read!), chuckle with your children, and send them to dreamland.” —American Institute of Architects
Some kids sculpt sandcastles. Some make mud pies. Some construct great block towers. But none are better at building than Iggy Peck, who once erected a life-size replica of the Great Sphinx on his front lawn!
It’s too bad that few people appreciate Iggy’s talent—certainly not his second-grade teacher, Miss Lila Greer. It looks as if Iggy will have to trade in his T-square for a box of crayons . . . until a fateful field trip proves just how useful a master builder can be.
A story told in verse, this is a book that shows the power of education and science. Iggy Peck is a child who once “built a great tower—in only an hour—with nothing but diapers and glue.” The structured rhymes and lively illustrations fit the architectural theme, and the text uses absorbing details of Iggy’s world to bring the tale to life. Each of Iggy’s classmates has their own unique quality, implying the variety of personalities and potentials to be appreciated in any group of children.
Young readers will love their time spent with Iggy Peck. They’ll love the story, colorful illustrations, and also learn about the passion and practicality of science (STEM).

The characters in Andrea's humorous picture books and novels are smart, funny, and unapologetic in their passion. They are doers. Curiosity, creativity, innovation and persistence are recurring themes in her work.
From architecture-obsessed IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT to the inventive ROSIE REVERE, ENGINEER to the irrepressible magician in training, Robbie Darko (DORKO THE MAGNIFICENT). And then there is the fiercely funny Ted (DOCTOR TED, FIREFIGHTER TED, ARTIST TED) who can't be stopped when he puts his mind to something.
David Roberts, a former milliner, has illustrated many children’s books, including Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer. He lives in London.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024Any kid who likes to build will enjoy this funny and charming book! It ignited an interest in bridge building when my son was four and two years later it’s still in his top 5 requests for bedtime stories!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2018Illustrations are not for everyone as they are more artistic than cartoon-like but the story is undeniably wonderful. The text rhymes throughout the entire book so every child I've read this too, 12 months to older, have all listened well to the very end as the cadence and rhythm of the words holds their attention. The pages are nice and thick, cardstock-like paper so it's not flimsy or easy to tear. The storyline is about a little boy who builds great things like an Architect. If you want a book to encourage a child to not be afraid to be smart and to work hard for a dream or to build a career, this is definitely a book for you! Love the lesson it teaches.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2011I have read it to the kids at my daughter's kindergarten class, and loved it so much I had to have it at our house too.
Iggy Peck is no regular toddler. This one makes towers out of diapers, cathedrals out of apples and a chateau of chalk. inquisitive and bright Iggy delights everyone with his unusual interest and talent, accept for his 2nd grade teacher - Miss Lila Greer. Unfortunately for Iggy, Miss lila suffers from a architecture phobia, inflicted on her in an early age when she was lost on a tour to a sky scraper, and found only two days later, in an elevator, with a french circus troup. Miss Lila declares that buildings have no place in second grade, sentencing Iggy to feel bored and unappreciated...
But a day comes - and Miss Lila Greer will need his talent, and learn to love and appreciate it. I was thrilled to find this book at our school, and I wish more classroom had this book, and more teachers read and understood it's message.
This funny, intelligent story will be as much fun for you to read as for your children to hear. It is a "not too long, not too short, perfect for a bed time story" kind of book, that my kids cannot get enough of.
Accompanied by wonderful illustrations, it is one of the most beautiful picture books I have seen.
I recommend it to anyone who has kids in ages between 4 and 8.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2011We have a lot of great books at home but Iggy Peck Architect became an instant favorite. We bought a copy from the National Building Museum's wonderful store while visiting my mom who lives in the D.C. area and we left it at her house among a small stash of other toys and books that we've left there. But here I am on Amazon ordering another copy b/c my 3 year old keeps asking for "Iggy Peck Architeck". It's a great read for both little ones and grown-ups, clever story, wonderfully illustrated and inspirational! This will be a new staple birthday and holiday gift for the preschool set.
Quick Update: Our 3 y.o. daughter now knows this book almost by heart and as a result of our daily readings, our 18 month old's first three syllable word was architect! I've already given many copies of gifts. This one is a classic.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2022I read reviews comparing this to another in the series. I have not read any other in this series so this is only a review of this book. It’s great! Large and detailed drawings to accompany imaginative twists. The book is as much about the drawings as it is about the text. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastique
