Jennifer Crusie was researching her dissertation on the differences in the way men and women tell stories when she got sidetracked into writing romance novels.

Her first book was published in 1993 (which pretty much finished off any hope of her getting that PhD) and her twenty-fifth book, One in Vermillion, part of the Liz Danger mystery series written in collaboration with Bob Mayer, came out in September of 2023, all of which she considers a minor miracle, especially since she is also a New York Times, USA Today and Publisher's Weekly bestseller and a two-time Rita award winner.

Jenny is now working on the Rocky Start mystery series also in collaboration with Bob Mayer. She is a very happy woman.

I think this author is one of the best. You can not go wrong with this read. Fun, tension, and a mystery

This is why I like Jennifer Crusie. Her books are entertaining, funny and a joy to read. Story is about Charlie and Allie. Charlie was a man who had problems settling down and was constantly on the move. In an effort to get him to settle, his father sends him to Tuttle, OH to help out a friend. His father's friend owned a radio station and has received a threatening letter. Charlie's job was to figure out who had sent the letter and whether the allegations in the letter were true. In order to do that, he had to pose as a DJ. Allie felt like she just hit bottom, not only was she recently dumped by her boyfriend, who happens to be the DJ she produced for, but she would no longer be producing his show. She was demoted to producing a show for a new DJ in the 10-2 am slot. Allie was depressed when she saw her ex with his new producer and decided to pick up someone at the bar. Little did she know that the man she was trying to pick up would be her new DJ. Charlie was intrigued by Allie and wanted to see where everything would lead him. Perhaps Allie knew what was going on, it was a good place to start.

Charlie couldn't help but feel attracted to Allie and by her propositioning him for a one night stand, it was making it very difficult not to indulge. After their one night stand, they can't seem to get enough of each other and prove that working together was really fun. Allie wanted to make Charlie a star, but all he wanted was to do was solve his case and get the hell out. Charlie soon finds himself enjoying his job, enjoying Allie and his life. Would he be able to move on and leave everything behind? Was the letter a scam to get him to settle? Would Allie choose her career over love? What would happen after Charlie left?

Such a wonderful, funny and entertaining book. Dialogue was snappy. Banter among characters is pretty entertaining and keep you interested. Read this book in a couple hours. Love Ms. Crusie's writing!

I was worried after first the book was going to be boring. I wasn't excited to read about Allie who worked at a radio station and wanted to make Charlie a star. But it's one of Crusie's so I had to read it. It was a great read. One of my favorites by her. Charlie All night is funny, sweet, and entertaining.

Allie is a perfect mix of seriousness, sassiness, and sweetness. She was a great character. She was thoughtful, caring, funny, and easy to relate to. Charlie was a perfect mix of humor, sex appeal, and relaxation. He tired to seem like he didn't care about anything when he really cared about everything. They balanced each other out so well and it was fun to read the story of the two of them fighting and then making up. Joe was funny, Mark added to the humor of the book and was certainly a dweeb, and the other characters completed the story.

I was laughing out loud when Allie and Charlie would get themselves in funny situations without trying to do so, felt the tension and heat between them, and couldn't put the book down wanting it to have a good ending. It's certainly a book I'll read again and tell others to read.

Fun, interesting and above all, full with believable sweet sexy romance. I loved the humor and the quirky characters as well.
Fell in love with JC's work by reading Bet Me and I must say that along with it, Agnes and Charley All Night, are my 3 all time favorites of her. I strongly recommend it.
(ps: I'm in a huge JC withdrawal and I would appreciate it big time if anybody that comes across this review can recommend me an author with a similar storytelling style, Thanks!)

Dumped by her boyfriend Mark, who she turned into a star radio personality, Allie finds herself without a job when Mark demands that his new and inexperienced girlfriend to be his producer. Allie celebrates her misfortune by going out to a club where she runs into Mark and decides to pick up on a guy. In walks sexy Charlie Tenniel, the laid back late night DJ. The two enter into a steamy "one night at a time" stand until a bet halts them.

Her bosses throw her a bone and offer the late shift with Charlie. But Charlie shuns fame and prosperity at every turn - what's a producer to do? As she makes his show more and more popular, Charlie becomes more difficult. What Allie does not realize is that Charlie is not a DJ - he is actually investigating some shady drug related happenings at the station, and has every intention of leaving his radio program (and Allie) behind. Or will he?

This is vintage Crusie re-packaged a decade later. But unlike so many authors that re-release material, Crusie's is not dated, and her writing style maintains a fresh voice.

I got this as a replacement for the paperback which was beginning to wear out. Crusie always peppers her books with sly humor, and the mysteries aren't bad either. It is interesting to me that I knew from reading her books that she has lived with dogs. A great many writers try to include animals in their books and make the mistake of treating them as furry humans or the interaction between humans and animals doesn't read true. Crusie never makes that mistake.

A Jennifer Crusie book is always a fun read. She never disappoints and a lot of the time the ending is predictable but its so much fun getting there.

Jennifer Crusie is one of my favorite authors, and Charlie All Night is one of her better stories. I love that her heroines are women I think I would like. Not perfect, but terrific women. And that the men their lives appreciate them for what they are. Not traditional love stories about perfect people, but relatable characters.

    I'd give it 5 but it's a little short.

But HEAPS of fun and lots of laughs! All we expect from good Crusie.

And despite the brevity the characters are well drawn (though I can't help wishing for more back story in some cases, after further rereads - possibly sacrificed to the fast pace?).

Stands up well to several rereads - good value Crusie overall.

A really lovely book from Jennifer Crusie, charming, fun, great dialogue and characters you'll fall in love with, both the main characters and supporting. Yes, it's light, not deep, no angst, but that's what is great about it. Absolutely perfect to read on the beach or in the garden on a sunny day or for a lazy afternoon on the sofa in winter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good romance read from Jennifer Crusie

Not one of her best, the reason for the hero to be playing detective seemed a bit iffy, plus the unveiling of the culprit was a bit anti-climatic. However this was a good read and I enjoyed it.
