Logan Quinn was trying to kill me.My Spartan classmate relentlessly pursued me, swinging his sword at me over and over again, the shining silver blade inching closer to my throat every time. A smile tugged up his lips, and his ice-blue eyes practially glowed with the thrill of battle. . .

I'm Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I'm going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I'm getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart--the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I'm afraid if I don't learn how to live by the sword--with Logan's help--I just might die by the sword. . .

I was very excited to dive back into the world of Gwen Frost. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Touch or Frost, and looked forward to seeing what was happening to Gwen after the events that transpired in the first book.

We pick up a couple of weeks after the battle in the library and things have settled down and gone back to normal. Well almost normal, there have been a couple of changes in Gwen's life. For example, she now has combat training with Logan and his friends in the mornings before class. She did not grow up learning how to shoot a bow and arrow or wield a sword like her classmates did and since she now finds herself with a target on her back it is important she learns how to defend herself.

One of the best elements of these books is our main character, Gwen. She is a strong lead and stands up for what she believes in. She has been through so much in her life and she bears her burdens well and is not whiny like some teenage girls her age can be. She does need to work on her trust issues at times and let others help her, but at a school where violence and betrayal is an everyday occurrence, I cannot really fault her for guarding her secrets carefully. I always enjoy being in her head and her general attitude towards life. She is a great character and Jennifer has made it very easy to adore her.

I also love the secondary characters in this series. Especially Gwen's pink loving best friend Daphne. That Valkyrie cracks me up with her short temper and complete devotion to her band geek boyfriend, Carson. She is very supportive of Gwen and is always willing to help where she can. We don't get to see as much of her in this book since her and Carson are always trying to sneak away together, but I still think she is a great character.

I can't review this book without talking about the romance. While Logan is still trying to keep his distance from Gwen, she is still crushing on him, hard. When she is with him, his words say one thing, but his actions say another. Poor Gwen is left trying to decipher what he is really thinking and always comes away confused. I am still rooting for these two even though I know Logan is trying to guard his heart. We get a little peak into the reasons behind his aloofness, but I still think there is plenty more to discover about that Spartan. One of my favorite scenes between Gwen and Logan comes a little later in the book, but I am just going to give you a quick snippet so it is not spoilery.

"I am glad you came looking for me," I finally said...

Logan gave me a crooked grin. "I'll always come looking for you, Gypsy girl."

I am not going to put any more because you have to read it to see what happens next, but don't moments like that just make you think "aww, they are so cute!"? Well, that is what goes through my head at least. They have such an innocent and sweet relationship. I really want them to work through the issues keeping them apart so they can be together, but I think only time will reveal how their relationship will develop.

As for the plot, I get so involved in these books and read them so quickly I am almost done before I come up for a breath. There is always so much going on and Jennifer has a way of sucking you in so deeply that you cannot even begin to try and put the book down. Gwen is being pursued by the Reapers and danger seems to wait around every corner for her. She is not sure who she can trust and there were quite a few plot twists thrown in there that I did not see coming at all. I did figure out some of the mysteries surrounding Gwen before she did, but I still relished watching her riddle it all out for herself. We also get a plethora of new information revealed to us and I could not believe some of the revelations Gwen uncovered.

I also enjoy the mix of mythology that is encompassed in this world. Greek, Egyptian, Roman, they all have a place here and the fusion of those any many more was fascinating. I have always been a lover of mythology and getting to see so many of them come together to make up one world is so intriguing and had me soaking up every the detail Jennifer gave to us.

Overall, this is another thrilling edition to this series and I enjoyed every minute of it. Jennifer gives you a little bit of everything, a budding romance that you can cheer for, an adorable and resilient main character, a cast of lovable secondary characters and an overall mystery that will keep you glued to the pages. I cannot wait for the next installment to see what Gwen will do with all the information she now possess.

The fun continues for Gwen in this installment. Daphne convinced her to head off to the snow with her rich and snobby classmates on their annual Mythos meet and greet after someone tries to run her down outside Grandma Frosts then someone shoots an arrow and narrowly misses her in the library. Ohhh oh. Looks like another Reaper is out the get Gwen. She is determined to hang out in her room, eat sweets, read comics, ignore Savannah and Logan making out, and find a guy of her own to flirt with, and she is most definitely not going to go skiing! If only she knew...

Gypsy Girl (Gwen) is training with the Spartans before class, to become the Champion Nike (and Vic) expects her to be, and failing. Miserably. I had a giggle each time Vic got dropped. What a character. Gwen knows someone is out to kill her and she needs to find out why. She expects it's the family of Jasmine, the reaper that Logan killed with his arrow to save Gwen in the final showdown of the last book, but she doesn't know how she is going to find them and stop them. All she knows is, she is determined to do it without help. She is Nikes Champion and needs to start acting like it.

I loved the extra guts and determination Gwen showed in this book. She really showed her backbone and started to gain confidence as she discovered more about her psychometry powers, the Gypsy gift given to her by her Goddess. She pulls up her big girl panties and goes to a party with Daphne to meet the mysterious white haired hottie Preston. I had to laugh a little hysterically at Logan and Prestons stand off outside the party. I do so love a bit of male jealousy!

There was always something happening in this book. Whether it be Gwen learning to ski using Daphnes memories, attending a freaky freaky carnival with creepy statues everywhere, being caught in a deliberate avalanche, being protected by a fierce fenrir wolf, discovering who was trying to kill (or scare) her and deliberately flashing on a psychotic reaper to acquire information on Loki to save the world while discovering news that rocked her world. Gwen had her hands full, and unfortunately they weren't full of Logan `Freakin' Quinn. Hmphhh. What a hottie - a tough as nails, leather jacket wearing hottie. I think I blushed when they finally kissed, when I really wanted to cheer out loud - Go Gwennn, Go Gwennnn. That he could still crack a joke when he was down for the count preparing to be protected by a girl and talking sword just endeared him to me further.

Nickomedes, what is the go with him? I wonder if he was secretly in love with Grace (Gwens mum) back in the day. There has to be some kind of history there, cause he is just so mean, and I don't get why. It is a little bit fun to read his snarky comments though, from one book lover to another :) And what about the ex Queen Bee, she is acting awfully weird. And, I am certain there is something with all the statues. I just want answers already :)

All the characters in the series are lovable and worthy of cheering on. Daphne and Carson are super cute, but I was happy to see Gwen making a few extra friends in Oliver and Kenzie. I was so happy for Gwen when she got the flashes of Logan on her necklace, I think I even got tears. Gwen deserves a little sparkle, it looks like times are about to get a whole lot tougher for her and the others at Mythos Academy. I just hope she and Logan sort their stuff out and do it side by side.

After reading some of the first chapter in the next book I am anxious and excited for June and the release of Dark Frost! I have preordered it and am itching for its release...

This is a wonderful and exciting story. I could not put it down and have purchased the whole series.
Ms Estep weaves a great story about mythology and descrndants of the goods in the modern world of Mythos academy. I am looking forward to start the third book in the story.

Great follow-up to the first book in the series. It has a great pace throughout the entire book. My only objection was all the back story, but since its only the second book in the series I can see why, it certainly did not take away from the story or the characters. I love Daphne and Gwen's friendship, bit great, very realistic, you always have the one great friend you can call a bitch and keep on talking without the evil eye.

I also like the way Estep make her characters "human" they make mistakes along the way and it doesn't make them a bad guy (or gal). I like seeing Gwen start coming into her own and with the help of Daphne being able to start to figure out what her "gypsy magic" really means and does. It's a good growing process for the character.

Looking forward to spending more time with Gwen and her friends.

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate Writing

I have to say it…throughout the book the author keeps using “toboggan” when I finally realized that she meant “toque”. Very distracting, bizarre error. One is a sled, the other is a knit cap.
This is a short story that has been stre-etched out as long as possible. The beginning and ending are the only parts of substance, so reading often felt boring and trivial.

Arrived on time, quality and condition as described. I’ve been a big fan of this series for a while and have finally enough money for o buy the whole collection of Mythos Academy.
*possible spoilers, but not really*
Though if you read them back to back it can get quite repetitive with the description as a majority of the books take place in the same location with the occasional change to scenery

2.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic.
Reviewed in Australia on August 18, 2019
Aaargh I wish I could get my money and time back from reading this book. I like strong heroines. This ‘heroine’ spent the entire book mooning and making lovesick eyes at a guy who is known to be a man-whore, who has a girlfriend that he whispers and cuddles and French-kisses/makes out with at every opportunity, and has told the heroine that he has feelings for her but they can never, ever be together (thanks Taylor Swift). He KNOWS the heroine has feelings for him and yet he flaunts his sexual relationship in front of her all the time. And all the heroine can do is make sad eyes that has everyone pitying her. I don’t care that you can’t help who you like, the book made the heroine look pathetic and annoyed the heck out of me.
And the plot line was just not good enough to make up for it. The heroine is a typical YA - immature, impulsive, easily manipulated and her emotions are all over the place.
I give up on this series.

**spoilers**
Especially when the only other guy that shows any personal interest in the heroine turns out to basically be a serial killer out to get her.
I also got sick of her going on about her average looks and how beautiful the hero/zero’s girlfriend is.
And THEN as soon as the hero/zero pays the heroine any attention at all, she laps it up like the desperate little girl she is. She’s all over him, no hesitation. SO FRUSTRATING.
