Dark humor at it’s finest

Dark humor at it’s finest
It’s hard to find a good children’s book with black comedy and this one is a prime example. A kid who’s first day in school is the most unforgettable and unfortunate. Right as class starts, the teacher who turns out to be a fire breathing dragon, begins eliminating her disruptive students...quite literally! From scorching a kid who’s throwing items to devouring a girl who’s chewing gum. All the delight of sick, twisted humor that’s fun to kids and adults. I hope I can find more stories like this!

What makes this book great is its ability to use humor to address a child's anxieties and misconceptions about their teacher, showing them that reality is not as frightening as their imagination might suggest.

This book is hilarious! Kids books usually are really tame nowadays, but this one is not. It is not graphic or gory, but it features a teacher who eats students, shoots fire at them and turns them to ash, and she even removes one student's head! There is no blood or anything scary, it is more humorous than anything. The pictures are really fun, the book is amusing all the way through, and it is a really fun read. My son was giggling all through this. I'm 33 and it made me laugh too.

Gift item for parents with young children, sharing a favorite read with my children when they were young - - looked forward to re-reading aloud annually as part of our back to school tradition.

I have two kids 3 and 6, who both love this book. My kids love the silly humor, however I can see where some kids may be frightened. It all turns out to be a dream, but the teacher/creature does some slightly scary things to the students. Like I said it all turns out to be a dream and in the end the boy has a great, not scary teacher. Regardless, I still do not read this too close to bed time. Overall, this is a great book, probably for an older child, 6, who is not frightened easily.

My son loves these books. He’s eight years old and does not enjoy reading, but he will pick this up all on his own.
