- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2024I loved these books growing up, had all of them! I am now purchasing these for my daughters. They are enjoying these books! There are some journal letters written in cursive. So if your child can’t read cursive they may need you to read it to them. However, the cursive is very neat and easy for a child to figure it out. This is a skill that I want my girls to learn so I like the challenge for them.

Stacey has diabetes. Diabetes is a disorder where your pancreas can't make enough insulin so you have to manage it. Stacey's parents take her to many doctors that may help her with her disorder. Meanwhile, Stacey is part of the battle between the babysitters club and the babysitters agency; a group with older sitters who can stay out later, and in general seem more reliable. But the babysitters club uncovers the fact that the agency is doing some not so good things- so the babysitters club regains their trust and their customers.
Around Christmas time, Stacey has to go visit another doctor in NYC. Dr. Johannsen knows this doctor and doesn't think be is very good. So Dr. Johannsen and Stacey form a plan to choose another doctor, schedule an appointment and surprise her parents. Meanwhile at New York, she stays in Laine's apartment and eventually the girls make up, and realize their mistakes.
This book is overall amazing! I definitely think you should give it a try :)

As a fan of The Baby-sitters Club, I always found myself more interested in the books that focused on Stacey McGill. I know that may sound odd to someone who’s never read the series, but those who have, they can relate. Though they may not all have found her to be their favorites, we all had one or two that really just stood out as a favorite character.
For this particular book, I must admit that I really despise the title: The Truth About Stacey. Since one of the two main plots in this book focuses on Stacey’s diabetes, it gives off the impression that the reader isn’t aware of this fact and that Stacey is lying or hiding something from the rest of the club. However, this isn’t the case as Stacey revealed the secret to the other girls in the club during Kristy’s Great Idea. However, in this story, you do discover that Stacey did hide her illness from everyone in New York. Despite being seriously ill and having her friends not only turn their backs on her, but also bully her for it, she and her family never tell anyone about her illness.
Now, a year later, Stacey’s managing her diabetes, adjusting to a new life in Stoneybrook and enjoying her new friends. However, her parents can’t seem to stop worrying. Their concerns are wearing thin on Stacey’s nerves, not because she is unappreciative for her caring parents, but because they are forcing her to see one new specialist after another. In the end, Stacey manages to convince her parents that she needs to have a more active voice when it comes to her care. She’s comfortable with the two doctors she has and she doesn’t need to see every single one in the country in order to continue maintaining her diabetes. But that is only one of three successes Stacey experiences in this book.
The second success comes from her reuniting with her lifelong best friend, Laine. At her sickest point, Stacey embarrassingly had a bed wetting accident while at a sleepover are Laine’s house. As with most preteens, Laine rejects Stacey privately and publicly in the aftermath of the incident. Thus fueling Stacey’s conviction to remain quiet about her illness. It only while on a trip to New York City to meet with new (and well known quack of a) doctor, that Stacey and Laine finally get to hash out all of their problems. My only issue with this comes from the fact Stacey feels as if she needs to apologize to Laine. Just from the details given (and not referencing a later book that goes more in depth about this story), Stacey has done nothing that warrants an apology. She was sick and it caused her to have an accident. She didn’t purposefully go out of her way to bully Laine and I honestly feel she was right to hide her illness. This girl was supposedly her best friend and despite realizing Stacey was sick,(i.e. fainting spells at school, countless doctors/hospital visits, etc.) Laine never once asked if she was okay or inquired about what was wrong.
Stacey’s third success is actually a shared success with the other girls in the club. As another (older) babysitting services pops up in Stoneybrook, the girls find themselves wondering if this is the end of The Baby-sitters Club. After all, how could they possibly compete against older teens who are available later into the night? As they lose jobs left and right to the other side, they girls try to come up with ideas for how to compete. Everything from offering to do housework, special deals and recruiting new members is discussed and as reports from the children come in about smoking, being ignored and even boyfriends coming over, the girls are becoming really concerned about the impact this other service is going to make. But nothing works until the girls notice three year old Jamie Newton playing outside in the cold by himself. The girls finally resign themselves to informing his mother of the situation at hand and it is with her support that the rest of the families realize that the other service is not quite as efficient.
Now, I must say I enjoyed this reread far more than I did the previous two books. But much like the last two books, there was something that took me back when I read it. While I understand a preteen may not understand that women don’t normally go back to being a size 0 a few days after having a baby (unless they are really lucky), reading her call one of her clients (even mentally) fat was disturbing. Nonetheless, as I found myself questioning why I even bothered going down memory lane with this series (and the Fear Street series), this book renewed my interest to continue on. Because eventually, I will hit books I never read as a child and of course, some of my favorite stories are yet to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2018Bought a few months ago for the niece's 8th birthday as my wife decided it was time for our niece to get exposed to one of her favorite childhood series, particularly with the empowered, young female and mature themes depicted through the series. The niece has appreciated the first few books thus far and my wife enjoy being able to connect her childhood to our niece's as well as looking forward to the influences she will be able to carry forward with her!
The "truth" of this story in particular is a meaningful exposure to more "adult" ideas that other children's books may generally shy away from, which further emphasizes the lasting impact of this series.
And the graphic versions of these novels are a nice upgrade to more easily engage our little niece right off the bat!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the babysitters club!!
The babysitters club is all about 4 budding and eager girls that cant wait to babysit. The majorty of this great book is based on the troubles stacey faces as she fights diabetes and i loved how the author not only based this book on babysitting but on other troubles that the girls were finding hard to cope with . This book alo tells us lots of morals such as letting out your thoughts ,making it up with friends and having loads of fun. I would recomend this book to loads of my friends and i think if you read this book you would soon be recommending to your own friends!!This book is amazing at weaving the troubles of young kids with babysitting and i loved it!! I cant wait to read the next 80 books!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 競争相手出現
順調にいっていたBaby-Sitters Clubに、危機が訪れます。
Baby-sitter Agency
