About the author
Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was born in Bombay in December 1865. He returned to India from England shortly before his seventeenth birthday, to work as a journalist first on the Civil and Military Gazette in Lahore, then on the Pioneer at Allahabad. The poems and stories he wrote over the next seven years laid the foundation of his literary reputation, and soon after his return to London in 1889 he found himself world-famous. Throughout his life his works enjoyed great acclaim and popularity, but he came to seem increasingly controversial because of his political opinions, and it has been difficult to reach literary judgements unclouded by partisan feeling.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2024Classic book for young readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2019I read this book when I was in ninth grade. It is superbly written, and I believe teaches boys they can and should act like honest, hard working men. I just bought two copies, one for my son and one for my nephew both in 9th grade. My son has been drawn into it immediately. This is a nicely printed edition, not cheaply printed. It feels like a quality paper back, the paper is bright and the type face is clear.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2019Cool , shorter book. An earlier Reviewer expressed some angst on the language syntax, but (in my view) this is easier to comprehend than Shakespeare and other written text. Some sentences DO need to be re-read to get the meaning, but no big deal. Clever story line, shorter read....
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2018The book was purchased to read. It was in great shape, new to me. Great quality, good price, hours of entertainment!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019This is probably a great book, but the old style language makes it a slow read.
