Three little girls set off to school one sunny morning. Within an hour, one of them is dead.

Fifteen years later, Kitty can't speak and has no memory of the accident that's to blame. She lives in an institution, unlikely ever to leave. But that doesn't keep her from being frightened when she encounters an eerily familiar face.

Art teacher Alison looks fine on the surface. But the surface is a lie. She's struggling to make ends meet and to forget the past. When a teaching job at a prison opens up, she takes it, despite her fears. Maybe this is her chance to set things right. Then she starts to receive alarming notes; next, her classroom erupts in violence.

Meanwhile, someone is watching both Kitty and Alison. Someone who never forgot what happened that day. Someone who wants revenge. And only another life will do. . .

A compelling thriller about the after-effects of a devastating accident.
My overriding memory of this novel will be Kitty's frustration. How unimaginably tragic to not be able to verbalize your thoughts and wishes! That being said, Kitty was not a very likeable character despite her appalling lot in life. The sibling 'love-hate' relationship was adeptly described in this novel, as were the vivid scenes that took place in the care home and the prison. The writing transported the reader to those places whether you wanted to go or not. Also very well described was the brutally difficult life of those caring for people with special needs. The emotional and physical toll would slay me.There were a few plot twists that will be appreciated by lovers of this genre.Much to my shame, I'll admit this is my first Jane Corry novel. Her six books to date have all been best-sellers and now I understand why. The author's time spent working in a prison herself gave gravitas and knowledge to her portrayal of Alison's time there. In short, a compelling read with many serious themes running throughout. Highly recommended!

There are so many layers to this gripping mystery. And just when you think you have the whole story... there’s more... and then more! The fact that the one person who you suspect holds the key to everything has a serious head injury, trapped in their own body, unable to communicate adds another level of depth to the mystery, and had me on the edge of my seat throughout the book, screaming at the person to remember. Also, the author’s knowledge of prison life was both insightful and interesting. A top-notch read. Looking forward to her next book.

My Thoughts: Alternating narrators, Alison and Kitty, reveal the story in Blood Sisters. Dual timelines flash back to 2001, when an accident happened, to 2016, when Alison and Kitty are dealing with events in very different ways.

From the beginning, we are aware that something led up to that accident, something that still haunts both sisters. Alison buries her feelings in her art…and occasional cutting.

Kitty, unable to speak, has flashes of memory, but is unable to express any of her thoughts.

Even when, in moments we see in 2001, we learn about what happened, there is also a deep and underlying darkness that has not come forth. What are the characters hiding?

In the beginning, I found the story slow and sometimes confusing. I didn’t warm up to the characters until we began seeing the moments from the past…and I realized the depths of rivalry between the sisters. As I kept turning the pages, I was captivated by finding out just one more secret. There were so many, and so many surprising twists and turns. By the end, I kept waiting for the final one that might reveal the unexpected darkness in each of them. 4 stars.

It was just too long and quite boring at times. It just dragged and the twists weren't so twisty, but silly. Some things didn't make sense, like Kitty's memory. It was very MEH...I don't recommend it.

Intriguing beginning with it starting 15 years after a dear friend doesn't come home. For some reason, the first 15% of the book gave me the creeps; that's a good thing. The author did a very good job showing both sisters' "prisons" due to the accident. Loved how past crucial members of the story were revealed. the BETRAYAL - I knew something was off, but didn't expect that !!!

It was a slow start for me, but once I focused on the characters, I was hooked. The twist and turns, each one of character came to life. I could see this being a movie. Can't wait for your next novel.

On paper, the premise of "Blood Sisters" by Jane Corry is an intriguing concept. Three little girls set off to school one sunny morning. Within an hour, one of them is dead, causing rippling repercussions for everyone involved. The rest of the novel is told 15 years later from alternating perspectives' of the two survivors, Alison and Kitty, the sisters both located at different venues: Alison working at a local men's prison and Kitty receiving treatment in a care facility. To clarify before I go on before, it's not three little girls but rather two pre-teens and a teenager.

I am normally a fan of sibling rivalries but it fell flat in this novel, as did the characters. I also had a lot of questions throughout the book and was forced to suspend my disbelief on more than one occasion. There were a few subplots relating to Kitty's health and condition that I couldn't believe were happening. As well as the numerous coincidences! Granted, one or two would be fine but c'mon. The closer I got to the end, the more I was unsure (and a little flabbergasted) at what was happening. Not to mention there would be one reveal, then another, then another, and etc. It just became too much to take. I was also upset at a rape being thrown into the novel. It was almost glossed over and two of the male characters couldn't even say the word. It was more or less referred to as "that thing" which upset me.

The book itself was a quick read, divided into lots of short chapters. The pages are easy to turn and you could easily finish the novel in one sitting.

I liked that the point of views changed meaning we got to see what characters were thinking... especially Kitty! I liked Kitty best of all. There were parts, however, where it's just too perfect a plan (or twist some may call it) that happened. I don't want to spoil anything, but whoever may read this will find certain things just too unlikely to happen (but apparently happened in this book). Anyways, I had to work hard to keep reading this at first. Then I just figured why not finish it (curiosity did get to me).

Great story, with twists throughout the whole book. The characters are not really "loving", but I could still care for the development of the story, even though I didn't care for the characters.

After the very first page the mystery starts and the sense of anticipation is what keeps the readers hooked until the last page. It has strong narration, full of twist n turns and every time you think you know where it's going a new twists is dropped. loved the characters, well constructed storyline. No unnecessary details in chapters which can make it boring and above all and most important thing which every psychological thriller need is an unpredictable ending and Ms. Corry has done it perfectly. Summing up everything it's intense and hair-pulling and nail- biting read.

Jacob Collins
5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant psychological thriller!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 4, 2018
Having read and enjoyed Jane Corry’s debut novel last year, I was really looking forward to reading her second, Blood Sisters. And on the back of finishing her second book, I have just bought her third. There were so many surprising reveals in this book and Jane Corry has become one of my favourite psychological thriller writers.

Jane Corry writes dysfunctional families really well. We meet Alison who has just taken a job in a male open prison as an artist in residence. Although Alison has strong objections to applying for the position there is something which pushes her to accept it. I wanted to know the reasons why this was so personal to her and what had happened in her past. We then meet Kitty who is currently residing in a care home. Many years earlier Kitty was involved in a horrific accident which left her confined to a wheelchair. There is a secret which binds the two women and it will have disastrous consequences for them if it ever comes out.

I read this novel really fast. Although it is quite long it certainly didn’t feel that way as I was reading it. Both Alison and Kitty were two really captivating characters who kept me gripped as I waited to find out what had happened to them and why they were in the positions they were now.
The plot is very skilfully drawn together. The scenes in which Alison was working in the prison were very tense particularly as she was getting to know the prisoners who were there and what crimes they had committed. Jane Corry kept me asking questions about why she was doing this.

This is a fast, pacy read which I managed to race through in two days. If you’re looking for a psychological thriller that will continue to surprise you, then I highly recommend this book.
