I love the Alex Cross series so I will read anything Alex Cross. This was a great story as usual...I know the concept of Bookshots is to provide a short, fast story without the excess fluff, but I didn't feel that I was missing anything as this series is usually fast paced anyway and once I start I can't put it down. I only gave 4 stars as the end of the piece leaves the story hanging, it's like it's to be continued in some future book or installment. So I'm hoping that an ending will be provided either in the book that's due out in November or a future Bookshot. I was expecting this to have a beginning, middle and end...I wasn't expecting it to leave me in mid air. After reading the last page, the last few pages were dedicated to promoting another series "The Women's Murder Club" with an excerpt from that piece. I am now looking forward to hopefully another Bookshot with a continuation of the story. I really prefer to read an entire book and can't wait for the Alex Cross book due out in November.

I have read all previous Alex Cross books and delighted in them. I had read several reviews of people who did not appreciate the Book Shots. I hesitated to order this for my Kindle because of the reviews. I finally gave it a try andI hate to say it, but I must agree with those who dislike the Book Shots. Usually the story is already fast paced, but this jumps from one thing to the next with little to no explanation. There are few details and the plot was pretty predictable. It could have been a really great read with the story line. However, Alex is definitely not on top of his game in this book. Plus it ends abruptly. I will not order or read any other Book Shots. I think it is just a way to sell more books and make more money for Mr. Patterson. His previous books were awesome, but this is definitely not up to par. I hope he rethinks his future books formats!!

A former antagonist, dead for 10 years somehow returns to stalk & haunt Alex Cross. The first encounter happens in a church soup kitchen where John Sampson, Cross's long time friend and partner is severely wounded. Cross's pursuit of the shooter makes him forget training protocols which places him in a most unfamiliar position and in turn, a very unexpected ending. This BookShots is a quick read and has some intense sub plots, but lacks the depth and intrigue that Cross's full length novels are able to develop. I would recommend BookShots for the reader who needs a quick start and then a sprint to the finish line.........and then move on without much reflection.

I bought three Book Shots basted on two interviews I head from Patterson. Never been much into the book a month authors but thought I would give this "new" concept a try. In the interviews it sounded like these were really just novella's under a different name, probably little bigger than a short story, but for the price and short business trips they might work. However it turns out they fall well short of what was advertised. For example, I was lead to believe there was about 3 hrs of reading material but book size, larger print and line spacing and at just 113 pages you would have to be a third grade reader to make this even two hours. I don't read all that fast and I finished it in an hour. The back of the book had another 20 pages or so but that was just a teaser for another book. But the part that really got to me was the stories ending. A major cliff hanger. So I feel I was really snookered by Patterson and his publisher. Leaving a cliff hanger like that is just a ploy to get you to buy a second book in the series, probably a third. So Book Shots look to be nothing more than a regular novel fed to you in sections, resulting in a price no different (and maybe a little higher) than a conventional book. I can't help feel that this wasn't, as Patterson claimed, a new approach to book publishing, it's just a way to sucker you into buying a book. Worse, as far as I can tell, the follow-on book isn't available yet. To be fair, I can't tell if this will be the model for other Book Shots, turns out the other two books I bought are not yet available. Next up is a Woman's Murder Club Story, unfortunately I already ordered it, but that will at least give me two data points. If your into short reads, but a short story collection, if nothing else you will get better writing.

2nd in the books series of Detective Alex Cross. This is compelling reading from the very first page. Each and every step holds twists and turns with many 'red herrings' that you simply fall for. The end is a brilliant revelation. A must read for those who simply love a gripping Murder Mystery that has everything and anything imaginable. From start to finish you'll find yourself alongside and in the story and you won't want to put it down until you've solved the crimes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Alex Cross
Reviewed in Canada on July 9, 2016
I love Alex Cross - the only James Patterson character (books) I enjoy.

I am not sure how I feel about these "bookshots" - kind of a teaser in between books. Part of me feels as though it is a bit of a sleazy way to make even more $$$ as if Patterson needs it! Regardless, the book and story itself are great.

Cross is back and this time he comes face to face with an old enemy (or maybe not?) - lots happens in this story and Sampson features prominently (which is something that hasn't happened in a the last few books).

In 166 pages, its hard to tell a detailed story - and Patterson is not known for his detailed chapters (thank god!). The book ends on a cliffhanger - letting us salivate for the "actual" book in November 2016.

This story is good, it features Alex Cross (instead of the whole clan, which is what happened with the last book) and is about police work. Its very short and won't give much in the way of information, but it is a good read.
