- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2011As far as my Gran daughter is concerned Lisi Harrison is GOLD! She started buying Alpha books at her school book fair.... These two that I ordered for her were to 'fill in the gaps' between titles. I personally can not vouch for the books and their content - however being a teacher... if a child is reading ENCOURAGE IT!!
They are NY Times best seller, so I took a chance. The Grand daughter was thrilled and that made me happy too.
It was a win - win situation. The books were shipped and arrived as promised in excellent condition. Yes, when she need another book, I will be a returning customer. Gran Daughters ROCK!
Dealer is highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2015This book was so awesome and wow-a-traffic that you can't put it down! I read it in two days because it was so addicting. Now I want the second book even if I don't need it!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2010I couldn't keep my hands of this book. It was totally addicting. I had only read 2 Clique books before I started Alphas and I wouldn't much say that I like Alphas better then Clique. I don't want to give a bad review incase needed so...... The desription in this book is truly amazing. I was totally shocked. And then the ending! OMG THE ENDING!!! The ending left you hanging filled with anger (because you want to know what happens next) and suspense. I am reading the 2nd book in the series now and I won't give anything away about Allie A. Abbots suspension.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2016"Alphas" is a very clique, catchy, attention-seeking book that I am sure will have haters and lovers arguing over it. There are many negative things I could sit and point out all day which are sure to bother most people with any type of brains (or so I hope). The characters are catty and all types of self- as in self-selling, self-indulgent, care only about self-interests, and definitely self-absorbed. Also, for the book being about fourteen year old girls they are obsessively boy crazy, disturbingly bullies, and have no sense of modesty. Which I guess since the book is about girls striving to be Alphas, self-confidence is a good thing, but they pass that into conceited and condescending. The worst thing was the characters and stereotypes. Skye is a dancer who is all look-at-me and thinks she is better than everyone. All she wants is people to acknowledge how great she is because she herself knows that she is the best and never admits she might need to improve on anything. Even with some breakthroughs in the book about how she tends to preform for the audience rather than dance for herself she remarks how that's a critique on her psyche but not her skill. The we have Charlie who normally would be my favorite character in a book like this because her skills are inventions. She has practically worked on creating an island that has so many wonderful technological advances that it's amazing. Also her mom used to be the assistant of the woman who owns the school and supposedly she is not stuck up despite being super smart and she cares a lot about proving herself. Which proving herself and staying with her lifelong boyfriend is why she wanted to go to Alpha Academy so much instead of a boarding school far away from her mom and love of her life. So to attend this school near her boyfriend, her mom has to quit the job she has had Charlie's whole life and she had to break up with her boyfriend but not tell him why. Yep, that is why I hate her. Last, is the character I just feel morally wronged by- Ally J, oh wait, nope it's Allow A. The one who stole someone's identity to go to this school since she was so heartbroken by this boy who fell for her friend despite #gasp# Ally being so much prettier her friend only "being a 6 1/2 out of 10 after being Photoshop." Oh yes Ally is the most infuriating character out of all the little teenagers with her insta-loves, her complete obsession with how gorgeous she is and pointing out how not others are, and her manipulative lying. The thing though that makes it worse, is the book shows she really believes that stuff.
Obviously I have a list of things I didn't like about this book. I do not know if I will ever be able to regenerate the brain cells I lost reading this either... BUT I like the author's writing style. "Alphas" is amusing, giggle worthy, the kind of showing that makes you take a break from life but is purely just for entertainment value like The Simpsons. If reading for entertainment laughs and you don't have a hatred for dumb teenagers (or like me I hate them but love making fun of them) then this is a very enjoyable read. I am worried about the kids of tomorrow if half these personalities are true but the author made a quick, fun read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2017Daughter loves these books you can’t go wrong buying for your teenagers!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2013I personally LOVED this book! The only I think would have made this book better if it were a little longer. I absolutely live the futuristic island they live on and all the adventure that are on it!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2012Be detailed and specific. What would you have wanted to know before you purchased the product?
Not too short and not too long. Aim for between 75 and 300 words.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2015I loved the book and it was very suprising and tongue tieing in many ways best book I ever read
