The Case for Christ (2pk) Mass Market Paperback – September 1, 1998
Evangelism Special! Read one yourself, give one to a seeking friend. Is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God? Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognized authorities in their own fields. Strobel challenges them with questions like-- How reliable is the New Testament? Does evidence exist for Jesus outside the Bible? Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event? Strobel's tough, point-blank questions make this remarkable book read like a captivating, fast-paced novel. But it's not fiction. It's a riveting quest for the truth about history's most compelling figure. What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ? Along with The Case for Christ, this Evangelism Special includes a copy of Zondervan's NIV Study Bible, The Journey. It is "The Study Bible for Spiritual Seekers"

- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021I read book two times over a couple of decades. I really enjoyed work which is well-written by former reporter, I believe, for Chicago Tribune. The story chronicles Lee Strobel, an atheist journalist's journey. His wife had converted to Christianity. He set out to disprove Christianity, and found strong evidence to point to the truth of Jesus as a historical person, and as the Son of God.
Story was also made into a compelling and challenging movie a few years ago, under same name, "The Case for Christ." I personally felt that the movie at least equaled, if not exceeded Hollywood cinema movie quality.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2016This is a worthwhile introduction to the area of Christian apologetics which will benefit every person. Believers will be informed and encouraged by the valuable challenges to modern, erroneous pre-suppostiions so prevalent in our culture and taught as indisputable fact on college campuses. Unbelievers who are open-minded enough to explore this book will find it eye-opening and even entertaining as they learn that indeed, the Bible has NOT been "changed" through the years, and that the New Testament was being authored literally within a few years of the death of Christ. They will learn that the so-called "scholarship" upon which the post-modernist denial of the truth of the scriptures is based, is hardly scholarship, but rather mere opinion, and stands in opposition to two thousand years of rigorous, truthful scholarship by brilliant, courageous individuals who often faced death to proclaim what they knew to be true. That is, that the Bible is indeed the word of an almighty and truthful God who has revealed Himself to humankind so that we may apprehend His gracious love for us as demonstrated by His own plan to suffer death on our behalf so that by our repentance and faith we may have eternal life with Him.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2023I purchased this book after hearing Pastor Jack Hibbs highly recommend it. Already a believer myself, I was curious to read what led a investigative journalist to transform from unbeliever to devout Christian. This well written book addresses assertions of skeptics point by point in a methodical, easily followed manner. Each chapter ends with a list of references for further investigation. Generally I would read a book this size in only a day or two, but I spent several weeks on this volume, allowing myself time to think over each of Strobel’s points. I came away with a deeper appreciation of my faith in Jesus. This book belongs on every Christian’s bookshelf.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2011Christianity is not about a conversion based upon a preponderance of scientific evidence. "Faith is the substance of things hoped for"Hebrews 11:1.
I enjoyed reading Strobel's book, and I while I found it fascinating to read the arguments of those he interviewed, the fact remains that we will never be able to prove beyond any doubt that Jesus Christ was the risen Son of God. If we could, then faith would no longer be required, and the basis of Christianity would crumble. I concede that the book is written with a pro-Christian leaning; Strobel wrote it after his conversion. And, I would have liked him to include interviews with experts on the opposite side of the argument in order to provide some balance. That said, it is a very valuable book for those who are seeking the truth in an open-minded and thoughtful way.
If you are an Atheist or Agnostic looking for hard proof, you will never find it in this life. Faith just doesn't work that way.
The writings of C.S Lewis are of great value as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2015As a physician, my colleagues and I try to make diagnostic and treatment decisions based on what has been proven to work through medical research. This book provides the information we all need to make informed decisions about what proof there is for the claims made by Jesus, his followers, and the Christian church. I grew up attending Sunday school and church and attended Christian junior high and high schools, but I had no idea about the evidence for Christ being God as a documented piece of history with undeniable circumstantial evidence vs the "faith" I found I had lost decades ago until finding this book. The evidence basis for Christ as the risen Lord is unbelievable from an objective and strictly factual basis, and I am so grateful that Strobel did so much work to bring the historical and archaeological research together for us so that we can look at it and decide from a perspective of facts and not just blind, somewhat irrational faith. This is the most important book I have ever read, and I see now how wrong I was about my previous disrespectful conclusions about my religion as something that I had gained through happenstance just as a Hindu might gain his or her religion by being born in India. Thank for educating me about the facts that make my previously held belief that we all basically worship the same God but call Him by different names impossible for me to continue to believe.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, whether you're a believer in Christ or Not.
I found the introductory text a little hard to read as the events described were quite heart wrenching. However, from the first interview I found myself going through with a lot of interest. The questions Lee Strobel asks in several cases are similar to questions I have been asking myself.
Amazing book. A must read for anyone who has questions about the Christ, the bible, the material contained in the bible and evidence concerning Christ and much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading
Anyone who says they are an atheist needs to read this book so they can make an educated decision and not just throw away the words "I'm an atheist" because they heard someone else say it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent informative read
This is an excellent and easy read book for anyone wanted to examine the evidence for the existence of Jesus, his life, death and resurrection. Lee Strobel makes a convincing case and at the end of his research finds himself challenged to make a personal response to the facts he has uncovered. He is not the first writer to tackle research in this way but his is the most up to date and takes into account the latest evidence from today's experts. His journalistic style brings added interest. I certainly learnt from reading it.
