She's just a New York City girl living with her artist mom...

News Flash: Dad is prince of Genovia. (So that's why a limo meets her at the airport!)

Downer: Dad can't have any more kids. (So no heir to the throne.)

Shock of the Century: Like it or not, Mia Thermopolis is prime princess material.

Mia must take princess lessons from her dreaded grandmére, the dowager princess of Genovia, who thinks Mia has a thing or two to learn before she steps up to the throne.

Well, her father can lecture her until he's royal-blue in the face about her princessly duty--no way is she moving to Genovia and leaving Manhattan behind. But what's a girl to do when her name is Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo?

Meg Cabot was born in Indiana during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign, but has been working hard ever since to give herself a happy ending. Her books for both adults and tweens/teens have included multiple #1 New York Times bestsellers, selling well over 25 million copies worldwide. Her Princess Diaries series has been published in more than 38 countries and was made into multiple hit films by Disney. Not appropriate for this age range
1 Star
Not appropriate for this age range
I bought this for my 9yo, as the age range is 8-12. The first page used the word “premenstual”. The fifth mentions diaphragms, condoms, and STDs. Not age appropriate. Just a warning.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite guilty pleasure series, although I don’t feel particularly guilty about reading it. Fun, positive, and funny series that anyone who likes YA will enjoy.

A fantastic sequel to the astonishing first, Meg Cabot out-does herself, once again! If you enjoyed the first book of The Princess Diaries, then you'll fall in love with the sequel!! With abrupt and surprising twists and turns, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat! Most definitely worth the buy and will keep you entertained for hours! Can't wait to get crashing on the third!

I first read this series 15 years ago and rereading it now has brought on a feeling of nostalgia. I stopped reading after book 6, I think, so I am really looking forward to seeing how the series ends.

After enjoying book one in the Princess Diaries series, I looked forward to digging into book two, Princess in the Spotlight. But right from the start, it felt like a rehash of the first book. There were many, many similarities, not all of which came from the fact that again, the gangly teen, Mia, who finds out she's heir to the throne of a small remote country, spends a lot of time every day writing in her diary. She complains, and COMPLAINS (in all caps) about everything and everyone. The incessant self-deprecating humor about her height, flat chest, and big feet got really old. Her BFF is bossy, insulting, and obnoxious, and Mia constantly pines for her BFF's older brother, like in the last book. She doesn't seem to admire or respect either of her parents or any of her grandparents. Most of her classmates don't seem to like Mia, and vice versa.

What did make this book fun was the introduction of a secret admirer and a few new plot threads. Kudo's to the author for creating a best-selling series that obviously appeals to 'tweens and teens. The writing is humorous and like book one, Princess in the Spotlight
is a light, quick read that you don't have to think about. I'd buy book three, if I thought it would veer off in an interesting direction. But after reading its synopsis and using the Look Inside This Book feature, it appears to be just more of the same.

I chose this rating cuz the book is amazing. I think that this book should be directed towards pre-teens and teens. I like this book because it carries on the story of Mia in ‘The Princess Diaries’.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zweiter Teil steht dem 1.
