Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery: A Novel (Little Beach Street Bakery, 3) Paperback – October 10, 2017
Purchase options and add-ons
It's the most wonderful time of the year… and the perfect moment to escape to a charming English village! From the beloved author whose novels are "sheer indulgence from start to finish" (SOPHIE KINSELLA) comes a delightful holiday story — funny, heartfelt, romantic and packed with recipes — perfect for the winter months.
In the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne, the Christmas season has arrived. It’s a joyous time for family, friends, and feasting, as decorations sparkle along the town’s winding streets and shop windows glow with festive displays. And in Polly’s Little Beach Street Bakery, the aroma of gingerbread cookies and other treats tempts people in from the cold.
Though Polly is busy keeping up with the demands of the season, she still makes time for her beekeeper boyfriend, Huckle. She’s especially happy to be celebrating the holiday this year with him, and can’t wait to cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a cup of eggnog on Christmas Eve.
But holiday bliss soon gives way to panic when a storm cuts the village off from the mainland. Now it will take all of the villagers to work together in order to ensure everyone has a happy holiday.
Full of heart and humor, Jenny Colgan’s latest novel is an instant Christmastime classic.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2024Such a wonderful novel! The character that you gave the little bird was perfection. The vast number of characters in the book (and series!) Who all were each so unique that you had no trouble keeping them apart. Amazing. But, the very best, and totally unique, was the surprise ending - that wasn't rushed, but rather eased you to the end. Brilliant!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2018One of the interesting elements about reading books such as “Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery: A Novel" by Jenny Colgan, the author shares with readers a slice of her own life. The story takes place in Cornwall a place that she is very familiar with as well as her family and friends. And within her books she shares the quaint setting of a seaside town by placing the main characters Polly, baker at Mount Polbearne and lives in a lighthouse with her American boyfriend Huckle, and their friendly puffin Neil within the story.
For this book the setting is the holiday season and much similar to a Hallmark movie, the story line is very lighthearted and contain likable characters. The characters have established close knit ties with their closest friends but encounter subtle moments of drama that they must overcome, for Polly is having to confront her somewhat estranged parents and rekindling what had been lost after years that have passed. Another issue that emerges, her friend and Huckle’s ex Kerensa is expecting a child; the issue is that Kerensa kept it a secret and Polly was entrusted to keep it that way until Reuben returned from his trip. What happens after that, readers will find out as they proceed with the proceeding chapters.
And when the story is over, Colgan leaves readers with a treat with three enticing recipes to celebrate the holidays before and after Christmas and up to the New Year’s. Or prepare and serve, Awesome Hot Chocolate, Knishes, and Mincemeat Twists.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2018I have enjoyed other books by Ms Colgan. Although this was part of a series, I felt that it worked well as a stand alone read. Reading it without reading other books in the series was not a problem for me.
Polly and Huckle are a charming couple who live together and plan to get married “some day”. She owns and runs a bakery in an island village on the coast of Cornwall. He is a beekeeper who sells his honey and the wax from the hives. She is English and he is an American. She finds it difficult to be still. He is a calm person who is very easy going. They live in a lighthouse with a pet puffin, Neil.
Their best friends live nearby. Kerensa is married to Reuben. They are obscenely wealthy as opposed to Polly and Huckle who scrape by.
I wanted to fall in love with this book. It was a difficult thing for me to do.
The first half of the book seemed to drag for me. There were too many descriptions of people and situations. I felt everything was too wordy without a lot of action.
There was also a great deal of drama. Polly's family situation with her distant mother and her unknown father. Kerensa had a crisis of great proportions. A puffin rescue site was in deep financial trouble. A young man wanted to ask his indifferent girl friend to marry him. As you can see, in the darkest part of winter, it felt as though there was darkness in people's lives as well.
I will read more books by Ms Colgan. I look forward to a book which is more cheerful.
This one was not a favorite with me. But, that may have just been me.

Great final (?) book in the Little Beach Street Bakery series. It wasn't only terrific to just get to read a book with the whole gang back together again but it all takes place around Christmas time! That's a plus right there.
This book was so much fun to read. It did have some pretty serious issues occur for a few of the major players that we have been following throughout the first two books. I won't tell you what they are so that you can get into the story and live the moments right along with them. However, I will say some things are good and some are bad and some are a little bit of both.
The book reads just as the others so I won't say a ton about what actually happens in it so, as above, you can go along with the characters as the story progresses. It's just a great final book and has a brilliant final few pages. It would be easy enough to bring the characters back in more books if the author wanted to someday but it also ends so well that it feels like a complete story when you get to the very last page. Such a good book to end such a good series!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2021I enjoyed this book. It’s a fast read. Simple book. But you want to keep checking in on what’s going on with all the characters of this quaint little village. Helps you remember that life doesn’t always go your way, but there are ways to struggle though that and be happy again. I haven’t read the first two books in this series but that didn’t hurt my enjoyment of this one. The setting was an amazing part of the book. Life in the seaside Polbearne, that got cut off by the tide twice a day was was so romantic and interesting.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2024One of my favorite authors. This book is a fun, light read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2023Third instalment in a series about a woman who loses her job, moves to a remote Island you can only reach by a causeway, and opens a bakery. This one centers around what it means to make or be a family. (Not sure about my lasting feelings on Kerensa.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Polly est de retour !
A lire !

5.0 out of 5 stars Beach Street Bakery Christmas
I fell in love with the Beach Street Bakery the moment I opened the first book so to go back for more is fantastic. We fall back in to Polly life at Christmas, best time of the year. Polly wants a quiet Christmas but of course nothing ever works out as planned.
Kerensa has a secret which could be a huge scandal and Reuben want Polly to cater for him all leading to a busy time for Polly and a strained relationship between Polly and Huckle.
A book to be read under a blanket with a hot drink and a baked good beside you. When Jenny writes about how cold the lighthouse is I always felt cold and wanted to curl up. You can almost smell the scents coming from the bakery and wish you could visit for a tasty treat or two.
I loved the book and couldn't put it down, literally read the book in one sitting just after Christmas whilst in an airport on a long wait for a flight. It was so good I gave it to a passenger on the plane and told her to read it and went and bought another copy when I got home!
I am so sad that this is the last Beach Street Bakery book in the series as I loved them and loved Polly and puffin Neil. If you have not read the series give it a try you will not be disappointed.
